Frederick
Eugene Powell (1856-1938),
is pictured here in a unique full-length performance portrait, alongside
a Martinka silk vanishing pistol (circa 1890 - 1900).Powell performed
with Imro Fox and Servais LeRoy as part of the billing known as the Triple
Alliance. He then created his own elaborate illusion show, and toured
the United States, South America, and the West Indies. Remarkably, Powell's
stage show was totally destroyed not once, but twice - in 1915 in a fire,
and in 1921 by a flood. Powell continued to perform nevertheless
albeit with a smaller show.
